People can still register for facial hair growing competition

SALISBURY, Md. – About a month into the Brothers of the Brush facial hair growing contest, participants in the fastest growing beard category had a chance to gather in a group and see some of their competition.

Eight competitors met up for a photo by the Government Office Building the evening of July 5. The contest launched June 3, and judging will take place Friday, Sept. 15, in conjunction with 3rd Friday in downtown Salisbury.

It’s a little late to join the fastest growing beard category, but there are five other categories that don’t require shaving, and people can sign up for these by Friday, Sept. 1. Those categories are mustache, partial beard, full beard, most unusual and worst beard.

Competitors have a chance to win sesquicentennial prizes and trophies, and it is free to participate.

The Brothers of the Brush contest is being held as part of Wicomico County’s 150 Year Celebration. Back when Wicomico County celebrated 100 years, in 1967, there was a beard growing contest. Now, the contest has returned as the County honors this sesquicentennial milestone.
